海角情 Holds Job Fair

April 20, 2016

Over a hundred community members and students of 海角情 attended a job fair at 海角情 on Thursday, March 24. Nineteen employers from across the state had booths at the event from a variety of fields and opportunities, ranging from dedicated careers such as in the medical and heavy equipment operating fields to positions in staffing agencies.

Each employer was well met with qualified and interested candidates. Deb Shields reported that Eastport Health Care has had 鈥済reat success with students from 海角情鈥檚 medical assisting program,鈥 adding that they emerge from the program 鈥渧ery well qualified鈥 for their required tasks.

Staffing agencies such as the nationally based Loring Job Corps offer training as well as placement programs. Accepted candidates are able to do on-sight training in certifications such as heavy truck driving while staying in dormitories at no cost. They can then be deployed on a national level.

Another employer offering national deployment capabilities is the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office. While Calais is listed nationally as having a 鈥渉igh need鈥 for customs officers, successful trainees will have the ability to transfer to a wide number of stations following their extensive four and a half month training. Customs officers can participate in a variety of roles including being in the K-9 unit or being part of the air or marine units.
