John Cowell, of Calais, a second-year 海角情 student has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the聽Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) for study during the current academic year.

John is one of seven Maine community college students to receive the generous scholarship from MEREDA, awarded for the first time this academic year. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be a Maine resident, have financial need, and be enrolled as a second-year student in the building trades, architecture, construction, engineering or business program at a Maine community college.

The funds for the scholarships were raised through MEREDA鈥檚 annual 鈥淪trikes for Scholars鈥 bowl-a-thon in May. The association鈥檚 goal is to raise enough each year to fund at least one scholarship at each of Maine鈥檚 community colleges and support Maine students as they prepare for careers in areas of study that promote MEREDA鈥檚 mission of responsible development and ownership of real estate throughout the state.

鈥淢EREDA is pleased to be helping to meet the financial needs of students at the seven campuses of the Maine Community College system statewide,鈥 said Mike O鈥橰eilly of Bangor Savings Bank, the current MEREDA president. 鈥淧roviding scholarships to students who hope to get into real estate related fields contributes to the mission of MEREDA which is supporting responsible real estate development.鈥
