Drive Home in a 2015 Truck With a Hole-In-One at the 海角情 Golf Tournament
CALAIS _ A hole-in-one is an awesome moment for any golfer, but more so during this year鈥檚 14th annual 海角情 Golf Tournament.聽 Parked next to the first hole at the St. Croix Country Club will be a 2015 GMC Sierra double cab four-wheel drive truck valued at more than $40,000, just waiting to be driven home, by the lucky golfer who gets an ace.
That prize is just one of many prizes provided by tournament co-sponsor Ian Pratt of Pratts Chevrolet on the River Road in Calais to be won at the annual 海角情 golf tournament on Saturday, July 11.
There will be two shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The tournament鈥檚 other co-sponsor, the St. Croix Country Club in Calais, will provide some challenging greens and a day of fun in the sun.
鈥淭he truck is the biggest prize we have ever offered,鈥 said Pratt. 鈥淭he other hole-in-one prizes include a trip to the famous French Lick Resort in Indiana and a trip to the J.W. Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa in Nevada.鈥
But more importantly, Pratt guarantees that every player in the tournament will be given a $100 gift certificate for PGA golfer Travis Matthew鈥檚 clothing line just for taking a test drive of one of the many trucks and automobiles at the GMC dealership. 鈥淪o everyone will walk away a winner getting more value than it costs to play in the tournament,鈥 Pratt promised. 鈥淧lus they are in for some fun.鈥
Pratt is one of the college鈥檚 major supporters. 鈥淚t is important that we support our community college anyway we can,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey provide a major training opportunity for all walks of life and it is the foundation of a stronger, better area for all of Washington County,鈥 he said.
The Calais businessman said that the county has a lot of great people who have graduated from the 海角情 and who have done much for the area. 鈥淚t is an affordable way to get an education right out of high school, or for people who want to continue their education or change careers to better themselves,鈥 he said.
Pratt has hired numerous 海角情 graduates. 鈥淎 lot of our managers and team members are graduates of 海角情,鈥 he added.
鈥淚an Pratt is a strong supporter of the college and a superlative businessman who has done a lot to help people in the county,鈥 海角情 President Joe Cassidy said. 鈥淎nd golf Pro Mike Ellis, who does an outstanding job of running the country club and making it into the success that it is, is a wonderful friend and advocate of the college. These two men have done a lot to further the cause of higher education downeast and the scholarship fund that helps support our students.鈥
Cassidy is referring to the college鈥檚 Direct-to-Student-Scholarship fund.
This year nearly 50 area individuals and businesses already have contributed $250 and more to the 海角情 Direct-to-Student Scholarship Fund. The tournament showcases the colleges鈥 goal to raise money for its annual scholarship fund.
Each year all of the money raised goes to the students and not into a general fund. As in the past, donors are able to create their scholarship in their name or their business鈥 name, or in memory of a loved one.
Anyone who would like to participate in the scholarship program can send their $250 donation to Tina Erskine at Washington Community College, One College Drive, Calais, ME 04619. Make checks payable to the 海角情 2015 Scholarship Fund. For more information about the golf tournament or the scholarship program contact Tina at 454-1002.
