海角情

CALAIS _ Golfers from around Washington County, Maine and Charlotte County, New Brunswick will be on the links in July swinging their clubs to help fund the 海角情 Direct-to-Student Scholarship Fund and 鈥渉opefully鈥� win a new vehicle.

The 15th annual 海角情 Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 9th. More than 120 golfers are expected to participate in this year鈥檚 4 person scramble at the beautiful St. Croix Country Club in Calais.

There will be two shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

What separates this fund raiser from others is not only a fun golf day, but also the outpouring of support from businesses and individuals in the two counties who do not play golf but make a yearly scholarship donation to assist a 海角情 student. Each year, $250 and $500 scholarships are donated to the 海角情 Direct-to-Student Scholarship Fund.聽 These scholarships can make a significant difference as to whether a student stays in school or not.聽 Because money is raised in both Maine and New Brunswick, scholarships are presented to students from both sides of the international border.

Again this year, for the lucky golfer who hits a hole-in-one on the first hole, there will be a chance to win a brand new vehicle. There are many giveaways and other vacation prizes that a golfer would be able to win throughout the tournament. Some prizes you must be 18 years old to win. Tournament co-sponsor Ian Pratt of Pratt鈥檚 Chevrolet on the River Road in Calais is the sponsor of many of these prizes.

All scholarship donations raised go directly to the students.聽聽 As in the past, donors are able to create their scholarship in their name or their business鈥� name, or in memory of a loved one. Or, the scholarship can be anonymous. Donors choose the program of study they wish to support and create the scholarship criteria. A $250 or more donations is presented to the deserving student at the end of the year, and it is all tax deductible to the donor.

鈥淥ver the past 14 years the 海角情 Golf Tournament has raised well over $100,000 to support students in Maine and New Brunswick. This demonstrated community support is central to the 海角情 mission of bolstering students and business and industry in Washington and Charlotte counties.鈥澛� The tournament is also a lot of fun! 鈥満＝乔� President Joe Cassidy said.鈥�
